Well Ian Duncan Smith continues his idealogical crusade against the poor and needy. Now if they believe that you are work-shy or working on the side they want you to work for £1 an hour doing various menial labour work such as collecting litter. Apparently this pattern of work is “beneficial”(maybe for tory poll ratings with other right wing zealots). There appears to be no consideration if this is even possible for some people, you know the sick and disabled already under attack via ATOS “doctors” in the whole ESA debackle admittedly instituted by the previous labour government. For those of you unfamiliar with this, ATOS is a private company employed by the department of work and pensions to check out all people who apply for ESA(disabled people or those with long term illnesses) and check that they are actually unable to work. According to many sources this test is a complete farce, it doesn’t take into account many issues that would not be apparent in a simple short examination, it also doesn’t take into account the fact that many people have good and bad days. It doesn’t even take into consideration the clinical opinions of specialists dealing with the disabled. Many of these opinions are subsequently overturned on appeal.

But as usual this misses the point how can we get people off benefits if there are NOT enough jobs? Its a pity that the government doesn’t put more energy into job creation instead of into cutting civil service posts, attacking the disabled and the jobless.

Lets put people and jobs above jobs for the boys, bailing out the bankers and worrying about the deficit. Higher growth, means new jobs, means less welfare and more government revenue via taxation. This not only cuts the deficit but means a far happier society which after all is what the government should aiming for?
